This summer, I will be holding 12 in-person town hall meetings throughout Pennsylvania’s Fifth Congressional District. The problems we have here in the district—unemployment, the high cost of health care, high taxes on working families—they’re problems we face not as Democrats or Republicans, but as neighbors and friends. I’m here and I’m ready to listen.
The incumbent Congressman Glenn Thompson is the only Republican Congressman in Pennsylvania who will not be holding in-person town hall meetings this summer. Voters hoping to have their voices heard by Mr. Thompson must cough up a donation first. (Mr. Thompson will be holding three fundraisers in August.)
Here’s what some are saying about Mr. Thompson’s decision to not hold town hall meetings:
“Failure to hold open, public town hall meetings smacks of arrogance.” -National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Tory Mazzola
-“If you are not listening, you are not learning. People already think public officials aren’t listening. To not hold a town hall just feeds into that perception.” -Pennsylvania Republican Congressman Tim Murphy
Now more than ever, we need representatives that are willing to listen. Please join me at the town hall meeting nearest to you. Please RSVP at the bottom of this page. I look forward to seeing you there.
